RE: Participation In Commercialization Of High Performance Biobased Lubricants
As was proposed for the Ohio Department of Development "Technology Action Fund" Grant
This is to confirm our commitment of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, to participate as an end user in the advancement of new Biobased Lubricants. As you are well aware Pictured Rocks was selected last year to participate in the Department of Energy/National Park Service's "Green Energy Parks" program.
As a selected site, the park serves to demonstrate and showcase emerging "green products and technology. Your efforts to develop marketable agriculture based lubricants coincides with our efforts to demonstrate and showcase these products.
The use of Biobased Lubricants/Fluids is a component of our program and we have had a great deal of success in the use of the following biobase lubricants and fluids:
- Hydraulic Fluid
in heavy equipment and vehicle lifts
- Transportation-Hydraulic Fluid
in heavy equipment
- Hydrostatic Transmission Fluid
in smaller pieces of grounds equipment
- Two-Cycle Engine Oil
in Boats, Snowmobiles, Chainsaws, Equipment
- Bar and Chain Oil
in chainsaws
- Biodiesel
in heavy equipment
- Parts Cleaning Fluid
for vehicle maintenance
- Penetrating Oil
for vehicle maintenance
- We are currently experimenting with biobased Engine Motor Oil in the crankcases of three of our pick up trucks.
With the program only in its second year, Pictured Rocks has already established itself and is nationally recognized as a leader in the Green Energy Parks program. The Lakeshore's participation in this program for the next twelve to fourteen months will focus on:
- Continued use of these fluids.
- Increase number & variety of fluids & applications used in the park.
- Demonstrate and encourage use of these products by the other 387 National Park Service units.
- Showcase and encourage use of these products to general public.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has been very pleased with the variety of biobased products, product quality and customer service. We look forward to a continued relationship of in product development testing and use.
